California Gurls

I keep wondering what it's like for the rest of the country to hear California Gurls by Katy Perry. I can't imagine that the rest of the country doesn't like the song, because it's a huge hit by now. But are girls from Iowa or Pennsylvania or Washington jealous? How do they feel about a song that is basically saying they're not as good as a California Girl? Or maybe they just don't think about it and just enjoy the song. Then you have to wonder though about the original California Girls by the Beach Boys, not to mention the greatest rappers ever singing California Love. Is California really as good as these people make it out to be? I think it is.

Caveat - As much as I love real California girls, and they are amazing, I've met a lot of wonderful and beautiful girls from outside the Golden State, Katrina, Kelly, Natasha, to name a few.... so please don't take this as my thoughts of girls outside California being inferior, I'm mostly just curious about how people view the song.

I'm Back

Hi All,

I'm going to try to get back into this again. However, instead of boring recaps of my weekends, I will be posting random thoughts and opinions as they come to me. Hopefully they'll be interesting enough to pass the time.

Stay tuned.

Palo Alto and Harry Potter

Hello Everybody,

Another weekend is over and some more thoughts are on my mind. First off, a little weekend recap. Not too much happened overall. We went down to Palo Alto on Friday night, we hadn't been there for a very long time, months at least, so we figured it'd be a good thing to do, just check it out instead of our usual bar stool at 1st and Main. Anyway, due to some limo/cab difficulties, we didn't get down there until 1am. At this point we were questioning even going, but we were in Menlo Park at the time with my cousin, so it was somewhat on the way back anyway, so we thought we'd check it out.

It was pretty dead down there. Unless there was some big party at Blue Chalk or Rudy's that we didn't know about, there wasn't much going on. Old Pro was pretty slow and Nola's was even worse. Luckily we had a good group of people so we had a drink and made the most of it. Found a friend down there who had his car so we got a ride home which was really nice. So a free trip home was good times and then just crashed from there.

Saturday was a pretty nice day. Recovered in the morning and after lunch Bryan and Matty P came over and we went swimming and hung out outside. Getting sun is always a good thing to do. That night my parents went to a friends dinner party, so Bry, Erik and I ordered some pizza's and watched some movies while playing drinking games. Wall-E was ending so we watched that and played a game to that, then Rattatouille was on after so we drank to that as well. Obviously Pixar movies are awesome and the drinking games we found were pretty sweet. Matty P eventually came over and joined us and then we just stayed in from there. Nothing too exciting.

Sunday was nice. Ran some errands and started watching the Harry Potter movies which leads me into my next topic. Well, little background first. Erik, while being on the couch for the last 3 weeks, has been extremely bored and has since read all the Harry Potter books, within 6 days I might add. So he's now been wanting to see the movies since he never has. I figured I'd do it too because I've only seen one (the first one) and so I thought I'd give it another shot since I didn't like it the first time and maybe it'll be better. It wasn't.

Harry Potter is such an idiot. First off he's a little bitch, he can't do anything and he's supposed to be this totally sweet dude. Also, he's so stupid whenever he gets into situations. All he has to do is tell the headmaster (I'm not going to attempt to spell his name) about the problem at hand and it could be solved so easily. But he never tells, he always wants to do it himself and it's so much harder than it would've been. Oh well. So the first movie was really bad. Sorry for all you HP fans out there. However, we started the 2nd movie and watched about half of it today. It is way better than the first. He's still an idiot and I want to punch him in the face a lot of the time, but he's getting better.

I know he's still young and stuff, I just have a feeling he'll never live up to my expectations. We'll see though. I'm going to watch them all and give it a fair shot. I was talking to Chris about Harry Potter today and how I didn't like the first movie. We decided it's like an entire story about the little boy who plays Anakin in Star Wars Ep. I, except that he's also gay. Harry just bothers me, and he needs to step it up in the next movies or I'm not going to be very happy.

No, I have never read the books. I know that may change my opinion but whatever, I'm not going to read them so that's just how it's going to be. Erik did tell me though that in the first 3 books Harry is a retard and the stories suck. But once the 4th book comes along people start doing shit and it gets interesting. So I'm hoping he's right and the rest of the movies are good. We'll see.

Alright, enough ranting about Harry. They're entertaining. Well it's the start of another week again. This week will not be very fun, two people are out on vacation at work so I'm helping cover for them. It's definitely not the end of the world, just going to be a bit busier. That's life though.

I hope you all had a great weekend and I hope you have a good week as well. Stay tuned for my next blog sometime this week about D-Day. You won't want to miss it.

Memorial Day Weekend

Hi All,

So another weekend has come and gone. It was nice, as 3 day weekends always are, but now it's back to reality and work tomorrow. At least it's a 4 day week, that's a good time. Anyway, here's what's going on.

Took Friday off last week, (so really had a 4 day weekend) and headed up to my cabin with my dad on Thursday night. We got up there late but still in time for a Snowshoe pizza and a couple jugs to hold us over for the night. Friday was spent working, started about 9am and worked til about 4:30pm. Installed a new door (frame and everything, didn't just hang a new door on the hinges) and raked a ton of pine needles, but didn't finish those.

Bryan and Andrew showed up at 7:30 and met us at Snowshoe, where we stayed and had dinner before heading home. Jamie and Megan arrived at about 10 or 10:30 that night. Anyway, Saturday was spent doing more work, started around 8:30 that day and finished about 1pm. Much less since we did some work the day before, plus we had more people which made it go much quicker. Megan stayed inside and washed the carpet with a steam cleaner and it looks great now. The rest of us were outside all day raking pine needles. It was tons of fun.

When we finished up we had lunch at Snowshoe, then just hung out that afternoon and napped a little bit while watching Sports Night. It was nice. Showered and got cleaned up and started cocktail hour on the deck, when Summer and Scotty showed up to join us for dinner. Sandy had also driven up that day to join us. We bbq'd steaks and had a full meal consisting of salad, corn, potatoes, bread, etc. Then just hung out for a few hours playing some games with everybody and having a really good time.

When the time came, we headed down to the country club bar where there is always a good time going on. Met up with some other people we knew up there and had some fun. Bryan started a dance train which took over the whole place, and then we just danced a bit and hung out with some Snowshoe folk. Walked home at the end of the night and crashed.

Sunday came with sleeping in, which helped the hangover tremendously. Everybody went home that day, Bryan, Andrew and I were the last to leave around 5pm. We figured we'd get home and relax, plus we'd have a day at home (Monday) before work to get settled in and everything. I think overall it was the right decision.

Well now it's Monday, Memorial Day, and I'm thanking every man and woman who has served this country. It's been a fine day, I was pretty productive but I've also been able to relax a bit which is nice.

So now it's back to work tomorrow for the week. Who knows what next weekend will bring but hopefully something worthwhile to talk about. Until then, have fun and take care.

Long Time....

Sorry All,

It's been way too long since i've blogged. my bad. i hope you don't mind i'm not using proper grammar, such as capital i's, but i'm too used to auto-correct so i'm not worrying about it, i hope it's not a big deal.

anyway, a lot has happened since my last post. mainly 2 things. 1) i turned 25. yeah. that's a big one. and 2) my brother had knee surgery, finally. so here goes:

1) a few weeks ago, on May 9, it was my birthday. first off, thanks to everybody who called, emailed, texted, any sort of way of wishing me a happy birthday. i really appreciate all of it. the weekend was really nice actually. friday night Courtney came down to hang out, so we ate some delicious french dip sandwiches from Bandera's and then watched the Giants game. went to bed early ish that night which was nice and we were well rested for the big saturday. After breakfast Courtney and I took a walk to talk about life. It was really nice and i think we're in a good place right now. After that we just hung out back at home with Erik and the family, some people stopped by and it was a very relaxing day overall. For dinner we had a nice steak dinner, just the family, and ended up staying in that night. I didn't feel the need to go out and get wasted just cause it was my birthday, i can do that any weekend night if i want to. anyway thanks again to everybody who was a part of it.

2) Erik came home a few days before my birthday and had surgery the day before, Friday the 8th. Unfortunately he had to stay in the hospital that night but he was hope pretty early Saturday and was recovering on the couch. he is currently still there. his knee has gotten a lot better but it has been pretty rough for the last 10 days or so. he won't be able to walk on it for another month or so i think, but everything went well and it should heal nicely.

*) other stuff going on:
-went to the giants game sunday night, that was awesome. Cain pitched great and even broke up a double play which was sweet. we sat in the Arcade which actually turned out pretty well. so that was fun.

-we're heading up to the cabin this coming weekend for our annual clean up weekend. we have to rake all the pine needles around the cabin, so we're doing a bunch of more work as well. we have to replace the downstairs door, power wash the deck, fix some insulation, etc. we have a good group coming up to help so thanks to those people in advance, it should be a good time.

-work right now is really busy and long, so that's not much fun, but i'm still loving it and am happy to be there. it's mainly just busy because other people are out on vacation and such, but it's not bad helping out. just a little more tired than usual when i get home everyday.

-Bryan and i are working more on moving out. picked up a couch over the weekend that will fit nicely into our new place. started talking about tv's and made a list of other things we'll need to take care of when the time comes. that time will be july.

well i think that's it. if i forgot anything i'll write some more but i can't at the moment. feel free to respond or comment if you have any questions about anything or want to hear about anything. take care.

Snowshoe Sampler, in Pints

Howdy Everyone. Sorry I've been slacking so much on the blogging. I usually remember while I'm at work, but am unable to sign in due to security reasons. Then I get home and forget about it. Alright, enough excuses.

Two weekends ago I was down in San Diego with my buddies Dennis and Bryan. If you want to read more about that, look at Dennis' blog, he talks all about it.

I'm going to focus on this past weekend, up at my cabin. Bryan and I drove up last Friday late afternoon. He couldn't get out of work til then, but it was no big deal since our real plans weren't until Saturday, so we didn't have a rush for Friday. Either way, when we arrived we had a few beers at Snowshoe like usual, then headed back to the cabin for dinner. We ate, had some beers, and played some games. It was pretty fun, but nothing special.

Saturday morning we slept in and hung out, hit up the hot tub a little bit and then got ready for our main plan. We left around 11:15am to walk, yes walk, to Snowshoe. If you've been to my cabin you know that's a solid walk, it's not just down the street. Anyway, that wasn't the best thing, since it was far, but kind of fun and it gave us some exercise for an excuse for what we were about to do. We arrived at Snowshoe at noon, and immediately had a "half time." From there, we decided to do a "sampler," which is a small glass of each beer they have. Since we were planning on being there all day, we wanted to do them in Pints.

There was some skepticism coming from both of us, we've tried all their beers before and we know we don't like certain ones, but how many opportunities like this will we have? So we said F it and went for it. Started with Pitch Black Porter, and went in reverse order from darkest to lightest. We figured that would be the best plan. I think the two worst of the day were the Porter and the Apricot, which was gross.

Anyway, we sat there all day, watched the draft a little bit, mingled with people, talked to the bartenders, sat outside in the sun for a few minutes, it was quite the afternoon. Courtney was planning to show up at 6pm for the night, which also worked out well because she was our ride home. This was all part of the plan though. Anyway she arrived right at 6pm as scheduled and hung out with us while we finished our last beer, which was 2 more after we finished the sampler, for those of you keeping score at home.

Then we just got some dinner at the market, bbq'd at home and hung out all night. Ended up going to bed pretty early but that's mostly due to the day drinking, it really makes you tired if you do it for long enough, which we did. It was really good to see Courtney too, we hadn't seen each other since November so that was really nice.

Sunday was pretty lazy in the morning, full of breakfast and movies on the couch. Always a good way to start off Sunday. Driving home wasn't ideal, but it never is.

All in all it was a great weekend! I'm sure it won't be an uncommon thing from now on, at least doing the "whole day" at Snowshoe. I doubt I'll ever do the sampler again, and I probably won't walk there unless I absolutely have to, but I will definitely spend the day at Snowshoe in the future. It was quite enjoyable.

I hope you all are doing well. Sorry it's been so long since I've done this, but I'll do my best to get back on the horse.

Take care.

Vegas Baby!

Well, I was in Vegas this last weekend for a bachelor party. Needless to say it was AMAZING! I'd love to tell you all about it, but you know the Vegas motto. Sorry everyone. I'll do my best to summarize it without breaking any rules.

1) Gambled A LOT - not down as much as I was expecting. Happy about this.
2) Drank? Yes.
3) Body English at the Hard Rock - good times.
4) Mandalay pool, daquiris, awesomeness.

Alright I think that's about it without getting too detailed. Great time. Thanks to all the boys who were there. Can't wait to do it again July 18th, in California though....

As for the rest of my thoughts: Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7, is opening day for the Giants. Jeffy Adams is home til tomorrow night, so Bryan and I are taking the afternoon off to watch the game. We'll be at 1st and Main if anybody wants to meet up. First pitch is at 1:05pm. First beer is at 12:55.

GO GIANTS!
